me for reality”
–Jamie Harmer
Jamie Harmer was halfway to work one morning in December 2016 when she saw police cars and fire trucks littering the highway in front of her. A nearly demolished Toyota 4Runner was being loaded onto the back of a tow truck. As she got closer to the scene, Jamie's heart began to race uncontrollably. She recognized the Toyota 4Runner – it belonged to her husband Kevin.
Jamie circled the accident, pulled over, and ran up to a Caltrans worker, screaming frantically "that's my husband's vehicle!" A CHP officer approached Jamie and gave her the bad news; her husband had been injured in the accident and had been transported by a CALSTAR helicopter an hour away to Santa Barbara Cottage hospital.
